About Workshop

In this session, Dr. Pennington will describe how the principles of applied behavior analysis (ABA) can be used to empower learners with autism to construct their own enviable lives. The introductory session will focus on the helping learners manage their behavior, develop new skills, and increase agency in their lives. Dr. Pennington will present the powerful principles of ABA using real life examples and everyday language to ensure the session is accessible to educational professionals, community stakeholders, and parents.

As a result of this workshop, participants will learn to:

  1. Attendees will describe the role of ABA in schools
  2. Attendees will describe a framework for understanding learner behavior
  3. Attendees will describe strategies for addressing challenging behavior and teaching new skills to students with autism and other developmental disabilities

Who Should Attend?

This workshop is designed for administrators, general and special education teachers, autism and behavior consultants, speech therapists, psychologists, counselors, families, BCBA’s, and RBT’s.

About Presenter

Presenter

Robert Pennington, Ph.D., BCBA-D

Currently Robert Pennington is a Professor and the William T. Bryan Endowed Chair in Special Education Technology at the University of Kentucky.

He has over 30 years of experience working with individuals with disabilities, their families, and teachers and has published over 90 articles, book chapters, and books related to working with persons with ASD and intellectual disability. Robert is passionate about the dissemination of research-based practice and has provided hundreds of refereed and invited presentations to researchers, practitioners, and families. He also values service to field and his local communities through membership on numerous advisory committees, editorial boards, leadership in professional organizations, and consultation in schools. His current research interests involve behavior analytic communication instruction, expanding students’ repertoires in written expression, and improving educational programming for students with severe disabilities

  • Only 75 slots are available. The registration fee for this workshop is $75.00 (USD).
  • Payment is by credit card, check or purchase order in USD.
  • You will receive an email acknowledgement of payment—that email is your confirmation and receipt. Please keep it for your records and reimbursement purposes.
  • All registrations are final. No money will be refunded.

Certificates of Attendance

  • Certificates of Attendance for 6 instructional hours will be available at no charge and can be used for Professional Growth Plan points.
  • Type II BCBA Credits will also be available at no cost for a limited time (by November 14, 2024). After the workshop, complete the survey and email the certificate to show your attendance to Dr. Cathy Pratt at [email protected]. In addition, you will need to provide your BCBA number.

Address: MSD of Warren Township, Administration Building, 975 N. Post Road, Indianapolis IN 46219 (entrance off Post Road and 10th Street).  Main entrance under the large awning.

  • Doors open at 8:30am
  • Workshop will be on the first floor in rooms 110 and 113
  • Lunch is on your own for one hour.
